Tituss Burgess does it all – he’s acted in Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, he sang in Schmigadoon! and now he’s hosting the new Food Network reality show Last Bite Hotel, Tuesdays at 9 ET/PT. So, of course, we had to ask him about his own kitchen and what he keeps stocked in his pantry.
In an E! Exclusive interview, Burgess shares cooking tips he picked up from his father, “I thought he was a genius,” plus the kitchen accessory that makes him feel closer to his grandmother. And if you were wondering what he uses Worcestershire sauce for, we got to the bottom of that. “I do everything short of showering with it!”
And, although Tituss’ new cooking show is full of mystery and intrigue, it’s clear that he knows the secret to make water less boring – just throw in a packet of Crystal Light. So, keep on scrolling for more kitchen hacks and pantry staples, including the perfect accessory for a bottle of Pinot Noir (or Peeno Noir) and the sauce that’s at the core of Burgess’ cooking.
We Called, Tituss Answered. Here's What's in His Kitchen:
Burgess swears by his Ninja blender. “I start every morning with a shake. And there’s something satisfying about pulverizing fruit. It tastes amazing and I get my health up!”
“It’s what I saw my grandmother use when I was a child. She did everything with it. Cooking with it makes me feel closer to her.”
“I do everything with the sauce: I make dressing, I make marinades, I use it for the base of soups. I do everything short of showering with it!”
“My Dad would make Italian dressing with these packets and use it to marinate chicken. The next day we would grill the chicken together. I thought he was a genius.”
“Duh.”
“I make popsicles with it. When I’m tired of drinking water, I throw in a packet. It makes me feel like I'm cheating.”
“Ever since I was in grade school, my Mom would put cottage cheese on my salads and now I cannot have a salad without cottage cheese. Don’t even put it in front of me if there is no cottage cheese.”
We just LOVED you in season two of Schmigadoon! Is there any hope for a season three somewhere?
According to Titus, "Never say never!"
You made Pinot Noir such a popular wine pick (thanks to Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt). Is there a wine accessory you swear by?
"My electric wine opener! Couldn’t be easier than that!" Hard to argue with this Amazon option with over 29,600 5-star Amazon reviews. It can open a bottle in seconds.
What’s one kitchen essential you should always buy on sale?
"Olive oil!" It's not on sale, but this bestselling Amazon olive oil is a great place to start.
What’s one kitchen gadget under $50 that you think everyone should have?
"A citrus squeezer," Burgess reveals. This option can add zest to any dish, plus it's sturdy and designed for lemons and limes.
Is there an inexpensive essential that you keep re-buying for your kitchen?
"Old Bay seasoning!" This blend of 18 herbs and spices is delicious on seafood (and almost everything else).
