Armie Hammer Says His Mom Gifted Him a Vasectomy for His 38th Birthday

Armie Hammer blew out more than one flame on his 38th birthday.
Indeed, the Call Me By Your Name actor’s mom Dru Ann Mobley recently detailed the unusual present she decided to give her son for his most recent birthday in August.
“Let’s talk about what I gave you for your birthday this year,” Mobley told her son during the Nov. 11 episode of his Hammer Time podcast. “So, I call Armie and I go, ‘Armie, what would you like for your birthday this year?’ And he goes, ‘Oh, I don’t know, maybe money. Whatever.’ And I was like, ‘I believe I’m going to give you a vasectomy.’”
But while it was his mother’s idea, Hammer—who shares Harper, 9, and Ford, 7, with ex Elizabeth Chambers—detailed how sold he was on the procedure when he went to the doctor to schedule it.
“I do a consult with the doctor and he’s like, ‘Are you sure you want to do this?’” Hammer shared. “I’m like, ‘I have two beautiful kids, I don’t want any more kids. I’m good to go.’”
And after some back and forth with the doctor, the Social Network alum admitted that the real eyebrow-raising moment came at the front desk when he was going over a payment plan for the procedure.
“I walk out to the receptionist and they’re like, ‘Okay yeah, are you going to be putting this on insurance?’” Hammer, whose dad was the late businessman Michael Armand Hammer—recalled. “And I go, ‘Actually, I don’t have insurance,’ she goes, ‘What?’ I go, ‘Yeah, I haven’t had insurance for years.’ And she was like, ‘Oh, okay. Are you putting it on a credit card?’ And I go, ‘Oh no, no my credit cards won’t cover this. My mother is going to be calling you. She’s going to be paying for it.’”
The conversation, he noted, stopped the person working the front desk in her tracks, prompting her to look up from her forms.
“I go, ‘Yes, my mother gave me this as a birthday present,’” he continued. “And it was just one of those things where you could tell she was hearing something and was like, ‘I’ve never heard this—what are talking about?’ So yeah, my mom got me a vasectomy for my birthday.”
As for what inspired the unusual gift?
“I thought, ‘Okay well I’m not going to tell him not to have sex outside of marriage,’” Mobley explained. “Which is what I would like to tell him as a Christian mother, but that isn’t going to happen. So, I know there are these young girls who would love to have Armie Hammer’s baby.”
The topic of the vasectomy came up while Hammer and his mom discussed the 2021 LAPD investigation—for rape and assault allegations (it was closed in 2023 without Hammer being charged due to sufficient evidence).
Throughout the investigation process, Hammer maintained his innocence, and his mother echoed her son’s perspective on the recent podcast episode, still saying his actions were “stupid.”
“Let’s be honest,” Mobley said. “I think you learned not to put stupid things in DMs because no one was eaten, no one was raped, but you were stupid.”
This isn’t the first time Hammer’s mother has spoken out on her son’s legal issues, also addressing the accusations in her book Hammered, released earlier this year.
“Armie made some bad personal choices that damaged his reputation and were hurtful to women,” the author wrote in her book. “None of his choices were crimes. In fact, after an extensive look into what happened by the Los Angeles Police Department, all of the allegations were dismissed.”
She continued, “Armie was cleared of all legal wrongdoing, but his moral wrongdoing was a different matter. The lingering effects of cancel culture endured, along with some broken hearts.”
